Alumni & Friends of RSMAS Oceanographic Cruise 
January 26 - February 2, 2008 

Dear Friends of the Rosenstiel School,
 
You are invited to join us on a unique oceanographic adventure aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines’ Liberty of the Seas. Launched earlier this year, this vessel is one of the newest and most innovative passenger ships in the world.  Our 7-night cruise departs from Miami on January 26, 2008. 
Joining us on the cruise will be Dr. Andrew Baker, faculty member at RSMAS, and internationally renowned expert on the impact of climate change on coral reefs.  Dr. Baker has made appearances in national media, including ABC News, CNN, CBS Morning News and NPR’s All Things Considered.  He is also well known for making marine science accessible – and fascinating – to non-scientists.  
Our group will meet regularly for private presentations, seminars and conversations with Dr. Baker about the marine environment and its future.  Each evening, we will meet for cocktails and conversation in a private lounge, followed by dinner in our own section of the dining room.  On the islands of Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Dr. Baker will co-lead shore expeditions.
 
Of course, you will have the option to participate in as many or as few activities as you would like.  
 
The Rosenstiel School’s long-term collaboration with Royal Caribbean represents an innovative partnership between academia, private industry and federal entities.  Aboard RCCL’s Explorer of Seas, on-board oceanographers and meteorologists study the ocean and atmosphere through the world’s only operating research labs aboard a cruise ship. Plans are underway to gather atmospheric data from Liberty of the Seas as well, to help provide clues to how our climate works and insights into the effects of global warming.
 
When?  We sail from the Port of Miami on Saturday, January 26, and return on Saturday, February 2.  
Where? Ports of call include Labadee, Montego Bay, Georgetown, and Cozumel.
Cost?  Cabins start at $690 per person (plus tax, port fees and excursions), accommodations and meals included.  Outside staterooms and suites are also available.
