Hmm... sospechoso, porque el socket automaticamente va a parar a ese directorio.
De hecho lo acabo de probar:
unix_socket_directory = '/respaldo/alvherre/pgsql'

Y el socket queda en
/respaldo/alvherre/pgsql/.s.PGSQL.5432

Supongo que reiniciaste PostgreSQL despues de hacer el cambio, no?
